Week 41

Saw plumbers this week, nice surprise.  Went over what needs to be done and have decided to paint the bathroom before the toilet and vanity install. They will be on vacation till the 10th of August so I have a bit of time to get that done.  Picking paint colours is the hardest thing! And I have colour theory courses behind me. I recommend Benjamin Moore design folks.  Paint is pricey but not as pricey as buying 1 or 2 gallons of something you don't like and repainting.

Week 41

Have decided to ignore the wardrobes for now and back to work.  Will and Sam came by and set the slope for my balcony with dry pack cement.

Week 41

Now is July 24 - 30.
What a disaster.  Rather a strong word I suppose, but it turns out that the measurement that Ikea gives you for the ceiling clearance required isn't correct.  After taking such care in assembly and raising the first wardrobe to it's rightful position, I did not have enough clearance and I have now gouged out the ceiling in a couple areas.  I stood there for quite some time in wonderment as to why my measurements were off.  How could I have possibly made an error? Now these darn Pax wardrobes are made out of particle board and I think most of you know how heavy they are. Manoeuvring them on my own and trying to protect my nice new floors is proving to be a challenge for me but I soldiered on for a bit and tried to think of an option that would require the least amount of effort on my part. After 3 attempts at raising them to an upright position and checking measurements and rechecking the directions I spied an alternative method in assembly.  One could assemble it half way, place it upright and then with assistance, attach the top and one side.  Now I tried, I really did, to assemble in this method on my own and I have admitted defeat. Who, on a sunny Sunday afternoon, would not be doing anything and would come help me like right now?  Mmmmm.  Found someone!

Week 40

Started on the wardrobe for my bedroom this Saturday.  They are Pax wardrobes from Ikea and how hard can they be. I read the instructions over and over the night before.  Discovered I don't have enough ceiling clearance for them, not sure what happened because I thought I had purchased the correct ones, but it seemed much easier to cut them down than to exchange them.  The buggers weigh a ton.  So I measured and measured and checked and checked.  I was very careful.  All went well and it came together nicely. Hahahaha, that's what I thought.  Stay tuned.

Week 40

Week of July 17 -23.
Things have slowed down around the house, taking a long time for anybody to come back.  The floor installer was to come on Wednesday but heard nothing till late Friday night when the salesman called to see if they could come in on Saturday to finish the stairs. Haven't seen a plumber or and electrician in a long time.  That sort of funny business seems to happen in this industry quite a bit.  Good thing I am a patient sort, sort of. Not totally pleased with the staining of the bullnose, but I can live with it and touch it up myself.  Can't bear arranging for another visit.

Week 39

How can I handle so much excitement on one week?  The appliances have been delivered!

Week 39

The repairs to the existing fir on the main floor  have started this week also.

Week 39

This is now the week of July 10 - 16th.  The rest of the floors went in this week, except for the stairs.  The colour of the bull nose for the stairs and around the stair opening doesn't match the walnut floors, so he will get those re-stained and be back next week.   Really beautiful I think.  I am super excited now. More pictures in the gallery as usual.
