Day 3

Demo is full on, more of the same today.  I am still determined not to leave, so far so good.
Now that we are into October, Will would like to get my deck going before the really bad weather starts, so work continuing in that area.  Wow, now that the 9 foot ceilings have been exposed on the main floor it is going to be something else. Will is happy to see that the beams in the ceiling of the kitchen are 2 x 8 since my deck will be above that. My kitchen and deck are above the main floor kitchen so both areas need to be gutted at the same time.  All I can say is that Linda is going to have one honking big kitchen.

The waste is starting to get to me.  Can't throw it all out, can we?  This house is something else.  Mr B was very much like my father, kept everything and reused what he could. Any work done around here is with whatever he had on hand. I have to admire the old guy, very resourceful. Crazy stuff though.

The cat may be a problem.  He is currently in the garage pouting and won't come near me.  He was unsettled all night, so may have to take him to boarding for a bit.  That isn't the greatest solution either as the last time I did that, he was more perturbed when I brought him home.  I am hoping if I have my room that will remain the same he will settle down.  Not so bad sleeping on the floor, not so easy to get off the floor, anymore.

Breaking News

According to my sister in regards to storing things in the garage:

BOUNCE SHEETS IN ALL YOUR STUFF IN THERE,
ALL OVER THE PLACE, TO KEEP THE MICE AWAY,
THEY WILL GET IN THERE, THAT IS WHAT IS
WRONG WITH MY CAR, THE MICE ATE ALL THE
WIRING IN THE CAR.
BOUNCE SHEETS VERY IMPORTANT, ALL OLD CAR
GUYS USE THEM IN THEIR CARS, THE MOUSES WILL
NOT GO NEAR THEM

GET THEM TODAY !!!!

Note:  not sure the if she means old guys with old cars or any guys with old cars.

Okie dokie, on the list for today

Day 2

Lots of banging and smashing this morning, sounds like a full crew when it is only 2 guys. Main floor kitchen going as I type, Will is having his way in there. Turns out the ceiling is dropped on the main floor and they are nine feet. Nice, but not sure if that is a good thing or not, as it was mentioned that it has to be all blown out now along with the demo budget. hahaha

The fridge upstairs packed it in sometime in the night.  Which I am not too upset about, one more thing that can leave and I don't have to figure a way to get it out.
Boy, what a racket going on.  As long as I have this little corner with the door shut I am okay.  Have my tv and internet and mattress on the floor, what more does a girl want.

I am curious and interested and always fun to watch, but I don't want to be in their way. Stupid homeowner following them around and being a pain in the ass.  I will vacate for the day, which I am sure will make them happy, not that they would ever say anything. Too hard to do anything in the house while they are banging and smashing anyway so off to yogi class.

Have returned and it's great. Things are actually getting done.  Pretty good for one day and 2 guys.  However, there seems to be some complaining about how tough this house is to demolish and how it doesn't want to let go...mmmm
Long nails and lots of them.  Linda figures Mr B worked in a nail factory.

Yikes, doesn't take long to demolish a kitchen. Main floor kitchen and my barbie kitchen are no more.  Thank you.  This will now be my laundry room.

Main floor master bedroom en suite is no more

Looking towards the en suite from the master bedroom. There will be french doors at the end opening up to the back yard. This room is normally so dark so it will be a big improvement.

Main floor hallway.  Why didn't we move those cupboards out of there before?

Upstairs new kitchen area, wall has come out between the two rooms.

Day 1 cont'd

Poor kitty, locked him in the garage as he was most upset, but he seems to like it in there, lots of hidden places now that we are using it for storage.  I have also made him a nice bed high up, using one of the old drawers in the house, which I think is quite skookum.

So the end of Day 1, still smiling...not the cat though..oh dear.  He is wandering around most anxiously and making a racket.  All he wants to do is sit on my lap and he never does that.
Linda was  whooping and hollering and very excited to see the work being done.  FINALLY !!

Day 1

Yahoo!!
Long time in coming and here they are.  Will and Gabe first day on the job....smiling and I am smiling too but then I am still in fantasy land.

Where I figured they would be today is not where I expected, so a quick move out of the upstairs to the main floor and already I can't find things.
As the bad weather is coming, they wil be working on the roof and my deck/kitchen area first along with the footings in the basement.  I believe more crew will be coming sometime this week and it will be full on.

Matt the electrician came by to suss out things.  He found it rather amusing that we plan to stay in the house.  Why do they all say that?

Will has dug out two of the footings in the basement to check them out, as code as changed over the last 100 years, go figure.
Unfortunately, the existing are only 12" x 12" and they are now to be 3' x 3'.  So all five posts need to be dug out.

Gabe has started demo on the top floor in my kitchen area.  Note all of the shiplap siding.

Just before

Final pack up of the house.  What can be said about that, lord.  Thankfully, a lot of my stuff is still in boxes from when we first moved in the house, so not too bad.  Thought we would have been at it before now and I have no idea what I have anymore.  Good stuff in the locker, the rest in the garage.
I will always be posting extra photos in my gallery, so keep checking.

Otherwise titled - How to live in a house while under demolition.

Against the better judgement of our local friendly contractor, but there it is, and there he is.
